Dr Alan McElligott

Reader in Animal Behaviour, University of Roehampton

Alan is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Animal Behaviour at the University of Roehampton in the UK. Alan’s research group focuses on understanding how evolution and domestication have shaped the social behaviour, cognition and vocal communication of livestock.

The main model species for his current research are goats, cattle and poultry. Alan and his team are also investigating the factors that influence public attitudes to animal sentience and welfare. The knowledge produced from their work is relevant to a range of areas including animal behaviour, husbandry and welfare as well as psychology and human behaviour change.
