Dr Manuel Magalhães-Sant’Ana
Vice-President of the Disciplinary Committee, Portuguese Veterinary Order
Manuel Magalhaes-Sant’Ana is a European veterinary specialist in animal welfare science, ethics and law (Dip.ECAWBM-WSEL). He is interested in the teaching of veterinary ethics and in exploring the relation between animal ethics and professional ethics.
From the University of Porto, Portugal, he received his DVM in 2001, his MSc in Bioethics in 2008 and his PhD in Veterinary Ethics Education in 2014. He was part of the FVE/EAEVE working group to develop a core curriculum in animal welfare in European veterinary education (2012-13). He was Newman Fellow in Veterinary Ethics at School of Veterinary Medicine, University College Dublin, Ireland (2014-2016), sponsored by the Veterinary Council of Ireland Educational Trust. Manuel is currently at Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama, Coimbra, Portugal, and is Vice-President of the Disciplinary Committee of the Portuguese Veterinary Order.
