Interview with Dr Sean Wensley

World Animal Protection collaborated with the British Veterinary Association (BVA) and the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) to address a veterinary perspective on animal sentience. Sean Wensley, BVA Senior Vice President, shares his views and opinions on the subject.

World Animal Protection is committed to promoting the importance of animal sentience. We believe that scientific research exploring the emotional lives of animals, in relation to what they experience and how we can measure this is key to improving animal welfare. The veterinary profession has a role in not only treating the animals they care for, but also in educating their owners in what is best for their animals. Emphasising the importance of considering the mental lives of animals is crucial as it is so often neglected, yet it has major implications for the health and welfare of animals.
